The landmark resort at 501 East Camino Real is woven into Boca Raton’s history. It opened in February 1926 as Addison Mizner’s 100-room Cloister Inn on the western shore of Lake Boca Raton, reopened in 1930 as The Boca Raton Club, and over the decades became the Boca Raton Hotel and Club, then the Boca Raton Resort & Club. Today it’s known simply as The Boca Raton.

The area around it is some of east Boca’s most familiar ground: Camino Real lined with royal palms, Lake Boca Raton and the Intracoastal Waterway, the beach a short distance east, and downtown and Mizner Park to the north. A new chapter is also underway. The Residences at The Boca Raton, a condominium building planned within the resort grounds, has groundbreaking scheduled for late 2026, with completion anticipated in 2029.

The neighborhood around the resort is also long established. Camino Gardens, just south of Camino Real, was built in the 1960s on land that once held the Africa U.S.A. wildlife park. Beside the resort, overlooking Lake Boca Raton and the Intracoastal, Mizner Court opened in 1988, followed by Mizner Tower in 1989 and Mizner Grand in 1999. On SE Mizner Boulevard, between Palmetto Park Road and Camino Real, the two towers of Townsend Place were completed in 1998 and 2003.
