Royal Palm is a waterfront residential community in east Boca Raton, laid out around the Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club. Development began in 1959 on roughly 450 acres that had once held a polo field and a nine-hole golf course. Its borders are easy to picture: The Boca Raton resort to the north, the Intracoastal Waterway to the east, the Hillsboro River to the south, and Federal Highway to the west. The community takes its name from the royal palms lining Camino Real along its northern edge, and it was the first Boca Raton neighborhood with guarded entry gates. Many of the original one-story Bermuda-style homes have since been rebuilt, and canals connect much of the community to the Intracoastal.
